Programming

Program philosophy

All programs at the Center for Trans Futures are designed and facilitated by trans people. We prioritize clarity, accessibility, and practical usefulness. Programs are structured to reduce harm, increase stability, and build long-term community capacity.

Core program areas

  • Education and public health workshops

  • Housing and resource navigation

  • Relational ethics and communication skills

  • Kink-aware, polyamorous, and consensual nonmonogomy aware education

  • Community toolkits and learning materials

Programs may be ongoing or time-limited, depending on funding and staffing. Participation expectations are clearly communicated in advance.

Accessibility commitments

We aim to provide:

  • Plain language descriptions of programs

  • Advance agendas when possible

  • Clear options for breaks and quiet participation

  • Sober spaces and low sensory environments

Housing Support

Housing support at the Center for Trans Futures focuses on navigation, planning, and advocacy. We work with trans people to identify barriers, prepare documentation, and connect with affirming resources in Richmond and surrounding areas.

Support may include:

  • Referrals to housing resources and providers

  • Help preparing applications and paperwork

  • Safety-minded planning around identity documents

  • Direct aid or vouchers when funding allows

Relational ethics and education

Relational ethics is the practice of building community through consent, communication, and accountability. It recognizes that harm is often produced by unclear expectations, power imbalances, and neglect.

Our work focuses on building skills that allow people to navigate relationships and community spaces with clarity and care.

Topics we address

  • Consent and communication

  • Boundaries and capacity

  • Conflict navigation and repair

  • Facilitation practices for safer spaces

  • Sober and ethical community norms

Relational ethics is not about perfection. It is about building systems that allow for learning, repair, and growth without punishment or shame.
